The 2016 ASD-N Chess Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Rexton Elementary School. K-8 students from across the district will be competing against each other in what promises to be the biggest tournament to date. We have already received participant information for students ranging from Campbellton to Rexton. The top 3 finishers at each grade level will receive medals and the top two participants from each grade level will qualify to attend the Provincial Chess Championships being held in Edmundston, April 16, 2016.
Students from MVHS visited NBCC Miramichi and the Idea Space hosted by Kevin Gallant. During the one hour visit, student had the oppotunity to view computer gaming, fly a drone, launch a trebuchet and visit the NBCC Idea Space. MVHS students had previously communicated with NBCC to 3D print an image of Lord Beaverbrook.
This initiative was under the direction of FN Science Lead Megan Gallagher. Grades 9 & 10 students from Bonar Law were dressed in costumes with Lab coats, safety goggles and Mad Scientist hair. They proceeded to lead the Grade 3 students through a series of 4 different Science activities at various locations throughout the school, a skit put on by Grade 9 English students, and a Pumpkin seed estimation wrap-up in the cafeteria.
