ASD-N Regional STEM Fairs

ASD-N Coordinates 4 regional STEM Fairs that span Kindergarten to Grade 12. Traditionally, students plan an experiment or design a product that they test at school. Regional Fairs are divided by age with Elementary Fairs for students in K-5 having their own non-competitive fair and Middle and High School aged students vying for chances to compete at Provincial Science Fair. Usually, each school has their own STEM fair to determine the projects that will represent the school at their Regional STEM fair.

What to expect at STEM Fair

All ASD-N Regional STEM Fairs run for a half school day and operate using this similar model: Along with presenting the findings of their project, students will participate in 3 STEM related activities. In past years, students have programmed robots, built structures, used telescopes, and studied the effects of texting and driving, just to name a few. Each session lasts about 45 min, so students are one the move and engaged in as much learning as possible.

Our events have a public viewing after the session wrap up, parents and spectators are more than welcomed to view the projects during this time. We finish with a closing ceremonies where judges speak to the participants. This year at the middle/high school level we give out golden tickets in place of medals or trophies. Projects receiving a golden ticket will be promoted to the River Valley Science Fair and will be showcased at the ASD-N STEM Expo in May.
