ASD-N will once again be running STEM Fairs in March/April of 2017.  They will be a little bit different than in years past; all grades will go to STEM Fair on the same day and participate at the same time.  Judging will still be K-5 and 6-12 separately for awards and golden tickets.

Have an idea for a project or science investigation that involves slow motion video?  As a teacher, you can win a $100 gift certificate from Arbor Scientific and a feature on their blog and the cool stuff eNewletter.  Slow motion video can be captureed using most recent smartphones, but if you want excellent quality look in to using the Egertronic Super Slow Motion Camera owned by ASD-N.  Sample videos can be found on a YouTube playlist here

On November 23rd, a group of Middle School students from Dr. Losier Middle School and Miramichi Rural School were the first to come to the newly branded ASDN Brilliant Studio located at JMH High School. They were tasked to build an arcade cabinet powered by Scratch code and Makey Makey controls. Students were introduced to the basics of Scratch and left to create their own version of a game followed by building a cardboard cabinet.

There was plenty of excitement in air, not to mention pumpkins, apples, tennis balls, and just about everything else that could be flung or fired at the 2016 APEGNB Pumpkin Fling held this past Saturday on the Waterford Green in Miramichi. This annual event organized and hosted by the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of New Brunswick has become a community staple over the past 14 years.

As part of the 2016 APEGNB Pumpkin Fling, students from ASD-N will have the opportunity to compete for Cash Prizes in the first ever mini-trebuchet contest. The contest will take place September 24, 2016 on Chatham's Waterford Green in Miramichi, NB.

This year for the first time as part of the Jalloo festival a 3D printing contest and Drone races were held.  Students had the opportunity to navigate an obstacle course with a drone and to submit their 3D prints to be judged. View Photos From Events

Three Grade 10 students from Miramichi Valley High School combined to produce the top results from all high schools in New Brunswick on the recently held, prestigious Cayley Math Competition, sponsored by the University of Waterloo. Julia Bent, Alex Tozer, and Shafkat Ahmed received the highest scores out of the 10 students who took part from MVHS. With a maximum possible total of 140 points on the exam, Bent scored 125, Tozer 122, & Ahmed 115.

On Wednesday May 25th the sun was shining, the thermostat was reading over 25 and summer was in the air but this did not stop students at Rexton Elementary from eagerly returning to school from 6pm-7pm to participate in Family Math Night.
