An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended the K-5 Math Night hosted at Nelson Rural School and facilitated by staff members and District Numeracy Leads. All kinds of fun activities took place including Osmo stations, SMART Board Games, STEM Bin creations, Estimation Jars and more. The Osmos continue to be a popular choice of students and this evening was no different as youngsters took turns playing Mindracers, Coding Jam, Pizza Company and Numbers.
Math Fun Night is scheduled for Thursday, November 2nd at Nelson Rural School. This event is open to all K-5 students and their parents/family. The night will consist of Math and STEM Activities including Board Games, Estimation jars, Osmos, Senteos & STEM Bins. This promises to be a great evening!

Max Aitken Academy was filled with plenty of energy and excitement on Thursday evening as it hosted "Brilliant Night". This outstanding event was planned and organized by ASD-N Numeracy Leads Kelly Richard and Kelly Russell and featured numerous STEM and Math related activities for K-5 students, although many parents seemed to be having a great time as well. There were numerous stations set up throughout the building including a dynamic Brilliant Labs display featuring an Interactive wall, m-bots, coding catepillars and more.
Last year, during the annual APEGNB Pumpkin Fling in Miramichi, schools from ASD-N were challenged to modify trebuchets and launch projectiles at a target for cash prizes.
They arrived, planned, designed, built and conquered, but most of all they had fun doing so! “They” refers to the students, parents and teachers from Anglophone North School District, who attended STEMFest 2017, which was held at James M.Hill Memorial High School this past Saturday. In fact close to 200 people participated in a “Carnival” themed day of STEM based activities, with the end goal of creating Cardboard Arcade games.
The ASD-N STEM team would like to invite you to attend the 2nd Annual STEMfest 2017 “At The Carnival”. This exciting event will be taking place from 10am-3:30pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at James M Hill High School. STEMfest 2017 promises to be a fun-filled day of learning for K-12 students, parents, and educators from Anglophone North School District. Students, teachers and parents will be using cardboard-based materials to design, build and then play carnival inspired games. In the afternoon, teachers and parents will have an opportunity to check out technology applications with hands
Our ASD-N STEM Fairs for 2017 have come and gone but not without some incredible projects and participation from students, parents, teacher and the community. Between the North Shore and Miramichi River STEM Fairs we had 142 students present 100 unique projects that varied from science experiments about diapers and sunscreen to innovations in cutting lasagna and receiving a text message when your laundry is done. Students also had a chance to participate in STEM activities and they came away with even more excitement about STEM!
The 4th annual provincial Scratch Coding Competition is now accepting submissions. New Brunswick Finals will take place at UNB Saint John campus on May 6th and the Nova Scotia finals will be virtual.
The schedule for our ASD-N STEM Fairs is now availible. Students will be divided in to groups and participate in activities when they are not with their project being judged.
Both District Fairs (March 25th at Terry Fox Elementary in Bathurst and April 1st at James M. Hill High School in Miramichi) will follow a similar timetable (please note end times may be adjusted slightly)
