Campbelllton Middle Math Fun

Posted: November 4, 2017

Students in Mme. Roy Leclair’s 7FI math class are learning about mean, median, mode and range. Working in groups, students were challenged to build the highest tower they could out of 20 plastic cups, measure the height of their tower in centimeters, table their results for five trials, then calculate their answers for mean, median, mode and range based on previous learning. What a fun activity!

Meanwhile, students in Mrs. Stimson's grade 6 math class are learning about measurement and plot graphs. On Halloween, to make learning relevant, Mrs. Stimson asked her students to work in groups to build the highest tower they could from a set amount of domino pieces within a given amount of time. Students recorded the height of their tower in centimeters for five separate trials. They were then tasked with creating a plot graph complete with title, labels and appropriate scales in order to demonstrate their results. A fun time was had by all during this innovative learning activity!
